Fundraising Without Boundaries

Virtual & Hybrid Events

Bidding Beyond the Ballroom

Technology & Fundraising Auctions

The COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 forced nonprofit organizations and urgent causes to find alternatives to traditional in-person galas. While smaller events were canceled or adjusted for social distancing, fundraising by auction had to evolve quickly. In the face of crisis, an unprecedented opportunity for change emerged, leading to three enhanced bidding formats that expanded fundraising auctions beyond the ballroom.

One of the most transformational shifts to arise from the global shutdown was the virtual and hybrid gala. Almost overnight, fundraising auctioneers across the country collaborated with audio-visual and tech experts to bring the gala experience directly to supporters—whether on a computer or mobile device.

Virtual events began as early as March 2020, with some of our team members conducting auctions within just 48 hours of the shutdown. Suddenly, fundraising auctions were online, and the audience became global. Online-only silent auctions became an option for smaller organizations or those without live events. As technology continues to evolve post-pandemic, virtual and hybrid events are becoming an essential tool for fundraising.

Maximize Reach, Minimize Limitations

Virtual & Hybrid Events Are Here to Stay

At Everything Gala, we see long-term value in virtual and hybrid auctions because of the numerous benefits they provide:

Larger Audience Reach

Adding an online presence to your event removes geographic limitations. Alumni, major supporters, and mission-driven donors can now attend from anywhere. There are no scheduling or travel conflicts—supporters can tune in at their convenience. More bidders = higher revenues.

Virtual and hybrid formats increase accessibility for donors of all giving levels and provide inclusive opportunities for individuals with mobility challenges who may not be able to attend in person.

By incorporating online elements, you can significantly reduce expenses associated with venue rentals, catering, entertainment and on-site logistics.

Online platforms are interactive with the ability to engage donors through live streaming and videos. Communication is enhanced with chat functions, real-time updates on bidding, personalized emails, and text message notifications, Some online auctions extended bidding windows.

Online auction platforms capture information in real time about bidding patterns, behavior, and performance of items. In depth reporting can be made from the information captured and used for planning future events or campaigns.

We Know What it Takes to Captivate an Audience and Drive Results

While virtual and hybrid auctions offer exciting opportunities, success depends on expert execution. Unlike a traditional in-person gala, where the audience is engaged for just one night, an online broadcast reaches a wider audience indefinitely—it can be viewed later, used for marketing, and shared globally. That’s why virtual and hybrid auctions aren’t for “amateur hour.”
